Chapter Four

Tracey was excited - it was her chance to really showcase Mr. Wahlstrom’s house, and she was going to see the tower.

On that first visit when she hadn’t been able to see the tower, she was forced to tuck it away mentally as though Mr. Wahlstrom was just another client who had a room he’d rather tidy up a little more before showing it.

If she’d known what was actually in the room, she might have put less pressure on him to see it, and listed the house with the plan of trying not to show the tower whenever possible.

After Tracey explained that it was essential she see the tower today, Derek gave a wry smile. He used one hand to gesture up the spiral stairs to the tower, and then used his head to indicate an elegant wrought-iron sliding door with an elevator behind it.

He’d changed out of his suit and was dressed in olive green khakis that were pressed with precision, and a black shirt with an impressive fit. Tracey noticed a different mechanical watch on his wrist as he pointed, and thought again of Andrew calling him the richest man she’d ever meet. She imagined that was something Andrew was very right about.

She glanced up at the tall, quiet businessman and gave him her most radiant smile, and then started to climb the stairs. “I jump at chances for a quick workout.”

This time she was sure he was checking out her ass, as she made the steep climb.

From behind her, he stated, “Very admirable.” There was a bit of a pause that left her wondering if he was actually commenting on her behind and then, “I think too many people don’t exercise.”

Derek stood for a moment at the base of the stairs, watching the real estate agent ascend, appreciating her long, lean legs and the swell of her hips as she moved up the stairs. He hoped what she found at the top wouldn’t make her change her mind about listing the home.

Tracey climbed the three flights of stairs with ease, enjoying the extra workout her calves got from the pumps she was wearing. She was happy to note that Mr. Wahlstrom seemed to have no problems with the minor workout either, and why should he? Under his designer clothing, it was apparent he took great care to stay in fantastic shape.

At the top of the stairs was an average sized landing that circled around the entrance to the stairwell. Tracey was greeted by two doors that looked as though they belonged in a medieval reenactment; one in front of her and one behind where she stood. They were large, wooden and curved at the top with wrought iron accents.

She looked questioningly at Mr. Wahlstrom and he responded, “The one behind you is where the elevator would have dropped us off. You’ll enter my favorite room of Manor House through the door directly in front of you.”

The door opened to reveal a stark room that was round with two windows.
